The first weekend of ‘holiday season’, Covid-19 restrictions lifted and the Apiary was able to host its first Members meeting since 15 September 2019. The weather was showery 19C but that did not deter 15 members attending.
All hives are National Single Broods unless otherwise stated.
Hive1 – inspected by Brian Herbert – Queen seen, (white), 6 frames BIAS, 0.5 frame stores, sufficient space. No Super. Temper 8. Fed 1.5L 1:1
Hive 2 – inspected by Brian Herbert – National Brood & Half, Queen seen (white), 8 frames BIAS, pattern poor (pepper-potting), 2 frames stores, sufficient space. No super. Temper 8.
Hive 3 – inspected by Liz Hawes & Martin Smyth – Queen absent, 1 charged QC, 6 brood, 5 stores. No Super.
Hive 4 – inspected by Graham Rowden – Queen seen (blue), 2 QCs, removed, 3 frames BIAS, sufficient stores & space. 2 Supers. Temper 10.
Hive 4A – inspected by Graham Rowden – A split from hive 4 on 18 July, 1 sealed & 1 empty QC. Very low stores, little 1:1 feed taken. No Super.
Hive 5 – inspected by Crispin Paine – Queen seen, 2 QCs, 5 frames BIAS, sufficient stores & space. 2 Supers. Queen & 3 frames brood removed. Temper 10.
Hive 5A – inspected by Crispin Paine – Virgin queen found in Super, returned to Brood, 1 QC, no brood, sufficient stores & space. 1 Super. Temper 9.
Hive 5B – inspected by Richard Willians – Queen seen, 4 frames BIAS, sufficient stores & space. 1 Super, 0.25 filled. Queen left unmarked, good size. very calm colony, temper 10. Rapid feeder removed.
Hive 5C – inspected by Anne-Chantal Ballard – National poly Nuc, Queen (white) seen QCs seen & removed. 5 frames brood, 1 frame stores, no space. Colony upgraded to National Brood. To combat QC production Queen on frame with sealed brood +1 frame with some stores retained in Nuc. to be reintroduced to 5C at next inspection. Requires feeding
Hive 6 – inspected by Anne-Chantal Ballard – Queen seen (white) 5 frames BIAS, 1 frame stores, 0.5 drawn frame space, 4 frames undrawn. No Super. Entrance reduced. Temper 10. Requires feeding.
